All roads lead to Maticha Praha on Thursday, August 15, for the 169th Praha Picnic at St. Mary’s Church-Praha, 821 FM 1295 in Flatonia. Mass celebration at 10 a.m., followed by the famous Praha Stew and Fried Chicken at 11 a.m.

(Drive thru plates available, $14) Bands include Ennis Czech Boys, Texas Sound Czech Band and The Lost Cause Band. Other fun activities include a country store, cake walk, plant walk, fish pond, ring toss and a raffle.

CASA Q&A

Golden Crescent CASA helps children in foster care navigate their way through and is also their voice in the courts. Volunteers are needed for the children of DeWitt County who are in foster care. If you want to learn more about it, please join us for an informational meeting on Aug. 19, 4-5 p.m at the Cuero Municipal Library.

Substitute, Cafeteria and Bus Driver Training

The Cuero ISD will hold its substitute training on Tuesday, August 20 at 9 a.m. in the Cuero ISD Administration Office located at 960 East Broadway, Cuero. This training is a state required and will provide individuals wishing to work in the classroom, cafeteria, or driving a bus with information necessary for success.

All substitutes must attend this training. New applicants need to bring a copy of their social security card, driver’s license, and transcript or diploma to the training as well. Applicants that have not completed an application with Cuero ISD, need to go to www.cueroisd.org.

Mini-Cheer Camp

CHS Mini-Cheer Camp will be held August 24 at the CHS gym (Roost) for grades PreK4 through 6th. Campers will learn cheers, a dance, jumps, stunts and have a lot of FUN!! Camp will be held from 9 a.m.- noon.

Doors open at 8:15 a.m. for pictures with Toby, and the parent showcase will begin at noon. Registration cost is $40 per child and $30 per additional siblings.

Annual Wildlife Management Meeting

Western DeWitt Wildlife Management Association will hold its annual meeting at The Nordheim Shooting Club on Aug 24. Registration 11 a.m., meal at noon. Big buck contest registration along with registration for management tags and a photo contest.

KidsFIRST Launch

First Baptist Church will begin a new year of KidsFIRST on Wednesday, August 28th. Every Wednesday evening during the school year, we offer free supper, worship time, Bible stories, music, and games for ages pre-K 4 through Grade 6. Older children will explore the New Testament 'Text Messages ' from Jesus . Younger children learn from the Beginner's Bible Curriculum. Grief Share Program 

The Grief Share Program is being offered here in Yorktown at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The Fall Sessions will begin on Tuesday, September 3, and be held each Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. through November 12.

Saturday Night Fever – Babe and Bubba Bingo

A Day in The Country 

On Saturday, Sept. 14, Weesatche 4 Warriors is honoring active duty military, veterans, wounded warriors, first responders and families in memory of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The event starts with a 10 a.m. opening ceremony and continues with a chuck wagon lunch, family fun activities and live entertainment until 2 p.m. at the Weesatche Community Center, 161 E. FM 884, in Goliad.

Murder at the Masquerade

A masquerade murder mystery dinner event to benefit the Friends of DeWitt County Children will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. at The Venue on Church Street in Cuero.

Senior Coffee Hour & Social

Preschool Tours

Grace Episcopal School is the newest preschool in Cuero opening in August 2024. Personal tours are being offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 1-4:00 pm. Grace Episcopal School is a ministry of Grace Episcopal Church.

The school will offer full day, year-round Christ- centered programming with small class sizes and big opportunities for individualized instruction and care to better meet each child’s learning style. Cuero VFW Bingo

Cuero VFW Post 3972 has resumed weekly games of Bingo at the Post Home.

Games will begin at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds of these games benefit local charities, youth, and veterans in need. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

1984 & 1985 Class Reunion

Calling all Class of 1984 and 1985 Cuero High School Gobblers. The 39th and 40th Reunion is Oct 11, 2024 and Oct 12, 2024. Cost is $60 per person but includes both night's festivities. Friday night mixer and Saturday night social hour, banquet and dance at Cuero Country Club.

Child Find Evaluations 

School districts must ensure that a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is provided for children who are identified as needing special education and related services. Child Find is a process to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals from birth to 21 years of age who may need special education and related services. Evaluations for Cuero, Meyersville, Nursery and Westhoff ISD’s are available through Child Find.

Early childhood intervention programs serve children with developmental delays and their families. Eligibility is determined through a team assessment by program staff.
