GOD first...Heavenly Father, You surprise us each and every day with small but amazing little things that show us we are not alone. Your Guardian Angles must work overtime in watching over us. Lord, as You guide us in our daily lives, help us to open our hearts to the needs of others as they search for their own path in their lives. We ask in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pray for those who are ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harm's way.
**A geologist was driving down a road when he saw this beautiful rock formation. He pulled over to get a closer look. As he was admiring the rock, an old farmer drove up. The geologist asked him if he knew how long the rock had been there.
The old farmer said, 'Well, in fact I do. It's a million and 7 years old.'
The geologist was stunned a bit and said, 'That's prettty specific. How do you know that?'
The old farmer goes, 'Well, another feller like you came to look at the same rock and he said it was a million years old and that was about 7 years ago.'
There wasn't very much going on in Nordheim this week. The rain stopped and most activity around the town was at a standstill. But we still had Kaffee Klatch this Thursday morning. We were surprised with a pan of orange danish rolls that was so mouth watering and delicious. Carol baked it and Larry brought it and started serving it with first serving Dennis by dropping the first piece in Dennis's lap.(some comments were made about that) Myrtle came with danish rolls too that came from the bakery in Yorktown and Ruth brought cookies.
There were many discussions about scorpions, indigo snakes catching a bull frog by chasing it out of a water trough, and various other things as both ends of the table were all talking at once. Then talk drifted to the Nordheim High School Band. Margie said she played the drums, Cathy played a clarinet, Dennis was working and didn't have time for band, and Larry couldn't toot a horn so he carried the band banner when the band went on marching contests because his girlfriend was the drum major. When the band had band practice each day, Larry had to go to class all by himself as the rest of the class was practicing music.
The Young at Heart met for dinner on Wednesday with Kerry bringing pork ribs while others brought side dishes and desserts. Following dinner, there was a Bingo game enjoyed by all.
The week before, we discussed water melons. One question was about how in the world did one find a ripe watermelon in the dark of night while looting one out of a farmers' patch. There are only two of us that still remember that one and she isn't talking. My buddy and I slipped out of the car and she and my cousin drove down the road and turned around and picked us up as they came back by. Ill gotten melons always tasted better. The farmer that had the melon patch told me to go and help myself anytime but I never told the others. It just added to the suspense and excitement of the moment. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Next week, there will be a story about how it was 75 years ago in the Nordheim Shooting Club Hall that a lot of people will still remember. I promise to see you next week.
