The children of James and Bertha Burda of Yorktown, Texas joyously announce that their parents will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on July 23, 2025. James Patrick Burda, son of Ladislaus John and Thelma Louise (McIntosh) Burda, was born September 17, 1938 in Houston, Texas. Bertha Marie Horadam, daughter of Gilbert Fred Adolph and Lillian Bertha (Thamm) Horadam, was born September 26, 1939 in Victoria, Texas. James and Bertha were joined in holy matrimony July 23, 1960 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, Texas.
The couple spent the first part of their marriage in New Jersey and Taiwan as part of a tour of duty with James’ Army commitment. Following his honorable discharge from the armed forces, James and Bertha returned to Yorktown. In 1978, James and Bertha welcomed a daughter, Jamie Marie, who is married to Danny Blank and lives in Cuero, Texas. In 1979, their family grew with the addition of a son, Johnathan Patrick Burda, who is married to Jessica Brittain Burda and lives in New Braunfels, Texas.
In addition to their careers, James in banking having served as president of First National Bank of Beeville (formerly Yorktown Community Bank) for many years and Bertha in teaching at Yorktown Independent School District, the couple has spent their lives raising their family and herds of cattle on their ranches in DeWitt and Karnes Counties. James and Bertha have been enormously blessed to see their children grow and marry and to enjoy the privilege of loving and supporting their grandchildren, Makenna Marie Trahan (23), Joshua Martin Prado (17), and Lillian Elizabeth Burda (11). More recently, they have joyfully welcomed two great-grandchildren, Nolan Asher (4) and Alivia Marie Trahan (born May 8, 2025).
