The international championship team of DeWitt County 4-H Livestock Judging was honored at the City of Cuero’s regular City Council meeting on July 14 in the council chambers.
In the Presentations and Recognitions section, Council recognized the achievements of the DeWitt County 4-H Livestock Judging Team with a proclamation. The team, consisting of Wyatt Ludekke, Jackie Finney, Nathan Oakes, and Percy Torres, was honored for outstanding performance at the National Western Roundup in Denver, Colorado, and for earning accolades at the International Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh, Scotland. The team was led by 4-H leaders Amanda Ludwig and Stacy Finney.
Council proclaimed July 14, 2025, as “De-Witt County 4-H Livestock Judging Team Day” in Cuero, Texas, celebrating the team’s dedication, global accomplishments, and contributions to youth leadership and agricultural excellence. Following the proclamation, members of the team delivered a presentation recounting their national and international experiences. Gratitude was expressed to the Council, the City of Cuero, and the broader DeWitt County community for their support and contributions.
During the Public Comments section, resident Ronald Deitz addressed Council regarding the placement of a roadside cross at the site of a recent traffic fatality on East Morgan and Stockdale. Mr. Deitz confirmed that the homeowner and the police department had no objections, and he sought clarification on any applicable city ordinances. Mr. Deitz also asked whether sidewalk installations were planned for East Morgan or Main in the future. Council acknowledged the inquiry and directed City Manager Wayne Berger to follow up.
Council unanimously approved the Consent Agenda as presented.
In the Ordinances section, Council postponed the first Reading of Ordinance No. 25-04 regarding the TDS Solid Waste Collection Contract in order to finalize pending contract details. The firm will review the rate filing for legal compliance and advise on appropriate strategies, including negotiation
or litigation if
necessary.
