As the school year approaches, student drivers are gearing up not just for their classes but also for the aspects of campus life, including parking. To keep students safer throughout the day, the YISD administration has announced a new parking permit system that aims to streamline parking for students.

Parking areas include reserved spaces in front of the football field, alongside portions of the high school gym, and the large lot across from the Auditorium. With the introduction of assigned spaces on a first-come, first-serve basis, it’s essential for student drivers to understand the details and process involved in securing a parking permit.

obtain a permit. The good news is that students will choose their specific parking spaces to ensure a more organized parking environment. This not only facilitates easier parking for students but also enhances safety and reduces the chances of possible accidents. Students will no longer be permitted to drive during school hours except for off campus lunch.

SENIORS CHOOSE FIRST To successfully secure a parking permit, students need to be aware of the key dates for permit pick up. The process will begin with seniors, who can begin choosing their space and picking up their permit on July 30. Following them, Juniors will have their chance on July 31, and afterward, all other licensed drivers can begin to secure their permits on August 4. This tiered approach gives priority to upperclassmen.

When picking up the parking permit, students will need to provide the following information: vehicle make, model, and license plate number, as well as proof of insurance and driver’s license. Upon pick up, students will receive a copy of the parking guidelines set by the school. Compliance with these guidelines is vital to maintaining a smooth and respectful parking environment on campus. In addition to the permit, Seniors will be allowed to personalize their parking space the week of August 4 -8. Seniors may paint appropriate designs on their space if they choose too.

Students are encouraged to mark their calendars as spaces are chosen on a first come, first serve basis.
