The Yorktown Varsity and Junior High cheerleading squads proudly represented their school at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Cheer Camp, held July 15–18, at Texas A&M University in College Station.
Led by Coach Kasey Hoyer, the teams spent four days immersed in skill-building, team bonding, and spirited competition.
“What an incredible week at UCA Cheer Camp!” Hoyer said. “Our Yorktown Cheer program had a camp full of learning, growth, and unforgettable memories.”
The Varsity squad delivered a standout performance, capturing 1st place in the camp routine competition and 2nd place in game day events. Adding to their accolades, mascot Wally the Wildcat, portrayed by Rylie Krueger, was named Mascot Camp Champion.
The Junior High cheerleaders demonstrated notable growth, earning the Most Improved Team award. They also took home 3rd place in both the camp routine and game day categories, marking a strong showing among their peers.
Throughout the week, the Yorktown cheer program received multiple Spirit Sticks, a recognition of enthusiasm and positive attitude. The team was also honored with the prestigious St. Jude Spirit Stick, awarded to the program that wrote the most letters to patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — a testament to the compassion and character of Yorktown’s athletes.
Four cheerleaders were named All-Americans — an individual honor recognizing superior cheerleading skills and leadership. Those selected include Paige Deleon and Avery Martin from the high school team, Marissa Gea from the junior high team, and Rylie Krueger for mascot performance.
Coach Hoyer praised the ath-
Winning spirit letes'commitment.
“I’m beyond proud of the effort, leadership, and spirit shown by every athlete. We’re so excited for the season ahead. Let’s go, Wildcats!”
The Yorktown cheerleaders return home energized and ready to bring that same passion and dedication to the sidelines this season.
