During my teenage years in the mid-1960s, I remember a song that was extremely popular and had a tremendous message in it. I liked the song and remember singing along with it when it was played on the radio. The song was “What the world needs now is Love” sung by Jackie DeShannon. The lyrics to this song were written by Hal David and the music was composed by Burt Bacharach.
It came out when our country was going through some turbulent times. The Vietnam conflict was in full force and many of our young men were being drafted and sent off to war. The people of our nation were disappointed with our government and the direction it was leading our nation. People were rebelling in the streets and tearing down properties. They were a voice trying to be heard because of their unwillingness to accept what was going on in America at the time.
