Heat doesn’t stop community from honoring local hero

Hello my fellow Cueroites Hot, Hot, Hot, the First Lady and I had an AC unit installed recently, the old one could not keep up, please be cognizant of the dangerous temperatures currently, check on the elderly and protect the young. The second reading of a 10-year contract (garbage disposal) with Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) has been approved, with the final reading due at the end of August. The Roy Benavidez Heavenly birthday ceremony was well attend, despite the event taking place on a Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in 90 degree weather, about 75 folks took the time to pay tribute to a true Cuero Texas Hero. Yvette and Denise, daughters of Roy, graced us with their presence. Attended the Grand opening of Mad Batters Cheesecake on 30 July, please stop by and give them business, you will not be disap-pointed. Have attended two zoom meetings with the folks preparing the comprehensive plan for Cuero’s future, they are very thorough and are gathering input from a variety of resources, your feedback is important in shaping Cuero’s future, and more public hearings are scheduled. Attended the 2nd meeting of a hazard mitigation plans committee, a third party company is reviewing the local emergency plans from the local entities, Dewitt County, the Cities of Cuero, Yorktown, Nordheim to name a few, the goal is to standardize the plans, so we are all on the same page, plus certify the plans through FEMA, for quicker assistance should the need arise. A meeting of the Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) was conducted recently to prepare for the coming school year, the MYC is excited and has started recruitment. I visited two downtown stores, the Gathering and Ryans flower shop, last week, visited with staff and had conversations on the downtown area, please visit your local stores, Cuero First!!! A second pedestrian- vehicle accident in the last two months. occurred this past week, please be careful, use pedestrian crossings and drivers watch out for pedestrians. There has been many intentional broken windows around the downtown area, causing disruptions and costing money, perpetrators will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, if you see something, say something. The new school year is in full swing, watch out for the kids!! More to follow!!
