GOD first...Heavenly Father, we praise You and dellight in Your many blessings we recieve that are known or unknown. You give comfort and healing to the many who are praying prayers for those who are in need, those who are suffering, and those who are asking for forgiveness. Help us to open our hearts to reach out and share the love of our Dear Savior, Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Pray for those who are suffering, grieving, ill, or are in harms way. A young man left his wife on the beach for a few minutes while he went to buy some ice cream cones. When he came back, he saw a big crowd gathered around. “What hap-pened?” he asked a bystander. “Some woman nearly drowned,” was the answer. “They’re working on her down there.” The young man pushed through the crowd. Sure enough, it was his wife. “What are you doing to her?” he shouted to the lifeguard. “Giving her artificial respiration,” replied the lifeguard. “Artifical” howled the young man. “Give her the real thing! I’ll pay for it.
For those who bought tickets for last Monday at the Nordheim Fire station, they were treated with country fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peach cobbler. The proceeds from this event are to help the Nordheim ISD Booster Club that will help teachers and students with projects they need. The Nordheim ISD, according to Cathy Morgan, has 105 students. The new teacher is an English teacher by the name of Dawn Moy and a new substitute teacher by the name of Amanda Horton. Amanda, was the one who was always at the Cuero Record, who took my article of Nordheim News to be printed in both papers. She also has two boys who have been here for several years.
This week, some of the boys and girls went to Karnes City to compete for Cross Country events on Friday. The next event of Cross Country will be held in Moulton on Sept. 13. On Sept. 6, Nordheim ISD will participate in Port Aransas. The Lady Pirates Volley Ball High School team is scheduled to play on the 29th at Waelder starting at 5 p.m. It will be their eigth game of the season.
The Nordheim Shooting Club was the site of the old Broadway Bar Supper, that in the past, was closed down and we had to move. Being a historical family affair, it was attended by over 50 people with a fine meal and good conversations. Those that hosted the meal were Tim, Ronda, Shookie, Patricia, Kathryn, Kay, Glenn, and Willie.
Kafffee Klatch had a weak attendence this past Thursday morning but the coffee was strong with ony seven people enjoying talking about a variety of subjects. Some of those that didn’t make it had doctor appointments or other good excuses. Still, Myrtle, Alma Jean, and Larry made sure we had enough to eat.
People are asking me, as they observe workers working in the ditches in some places, what are they doing? I’m not an expert but having seen this done in many places of workers doing this same thing, I’m speculating that they are getting ready for a rain of maybe one or two inches, which we need very badly. They’re putting up plastic barriers with stakes and piling big rocks ahead of them to slow down any stream a rain might bring after they get the ditches prepared for seeding to keep the soil in place. It is being done from the Karnes-Dewitt County line on Hwy 72 to Yorktown where water will stream down hill. They are betting that we will not have a hurricane that will bring over six or seven inches of rain or even more that might wash out all they have done. Never in our wildest dream did we ever think Nordheim would have a four-lane highway around the town. See you next week. Pray for rain!
