STAFF R EPORT Police have identified a person of interest in the window vandalism of offices and stores in downtown Cuero in July and August, according to Chief of Police Steve Ellis.
“We don’t have anyone in custody, but we are trying to develop information that will lead to an arrest,” Ellis said.
Ellis said the person of interest showed up in multiple exposures by surveillance cameras, but none of them captured the individual in the action of breaking windows.
The most recent vandalism occurred the weekend of Aug. 16-17 at four locations, Ellis said. During the weekend of July 19-20, six locations suffered damage, he said.
The damage consisted of windows being broken out with repairs ranging from $200 to $2,000 at each location, Ellis said.
“It does add up to quite a bit of expense when you start taking all of the damage into account,” Ellis said.
Ellis said the police department has reached out to the public for information, but so far none has been received that would lead to an arrest. The motive for the vandalism is unknown, he said.
Anyone who has information about the vandalism is urged to contact the police department at 361-2773552.
