Dear Editor, This is written in reference to the recent C.I.S.D. budget meeting. Both B.J. Drehr and myself were given our allotted time to speak. After which the district Snance manager gave an overview of the proposed budget using a screen and projector. What caught my attention was the expected expenses were shared but nothing about the expected revenue amounts. When we contacted Sean Douglas for permission to use his name in this letter, Sean shared that Courtney Kubesch had asked several questions pertaining to the budget prior to the meeting starting. Our newest board member, Sean Douglas, had two questions regarding the budget during the meeting, and the Snance manager replied she didnt have the information at hand, but assured everyone she would get it. She then asked if anyone had any questions, so I asked about the legal line item amount. I was politely told by the school board president that I was not allowed to ask any questions, that only board members can ask them. Then the budget went to a vote. Because of the lack of information for his questions, Sean chose to abstain. He was the only one to not vote for approval of the proposed budget. Just like that, an approximate $20,500,000 budget passed. Granted, understanding a school budget is complicated; with federal money, state money and local taxes all involved. Our superintendent stated to me, the best anyone can ask for is an estimated guess. The meeting was then adjourned; total time from start to Snish was under 30 minutes for an approximate 20 million dollar budget. No wonder we have gone over budget for the last 7 years.
