Cuero resident Tyler Jacob Gamez, 23, was shot and killed in Victoria Saturday, Aug. 30, and a suspect in his murder who was being saught was captured Thursday, Sept. 4.
A murder warrant was issued for Charles Lee Brazil Jr., 31, Wednesday, Sept. 3, by the Victoria Police Department. Crime Stoppers of Victoria offered a reward for information leading to Brazil’s arrest.
Brazil was arrested in Brownsville, according to the Victoria Police Department. The United States Marshal Service Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force apprehended Brazil.
The shooting that killed Gamez occurred at a business parking lot on Lone Tree Road in Victoria shortly after 1 a.m., according to Victoria Police Department’s media relations office. A disturbance reportedly broke out in the parking lot, and a shooter began firing into the crowd.
Gamez reportedly had walked out into the parking lot where there are several busineses, including a bar, to see what the disturbance was about and was shot, according to posts on the police department’s Facebook page where the Crime Watchers advertisement of Brazil was posted. Witnesses reportedly identified Brazil as the shooter who allegedly retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and started shooting.
The quick apprehension of Brazil was due to the collaborative effort of the Victoria Police Department, the US Marshal Service, the Houston Police Department, the Brownsville Police Department and actionable intelligence shared by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s San Antonio Field Office, according to the Victoria Police Department.
Gamez, who was the father of an infant daughter, was a Cuero High School graduate and worked as a driver for Fed Ex in the Kyle area, according to an obituary posted online by Freund Funeral Home.
Funeral services were planned for Saturday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home with burial following at Hillside Cemetery.
