The City of Cuero plans to fill one opening on the Building and Standards Commission and one on the Zoning Board of Adjustments and is seeking volunteers for appointment, according to City Secretary Jennifer Urban.
Both bodies meet on as needed basis, and meetings are held in the City Council chambers. The City Council appoints members who have demonstrated civic interest, a general knowledge of the community, independent and intelligent judgment, understanding of neighborhood integrity and availability to prepare for and attend meetings, and who by reason of diversity of their occupations, constitute a commission which is broadly representative of the community,” according to the city website.
The Building and Standards Commission enforces building codes to ensure public safety. It has the authority to require property owners to make repairs, demolish unsafe structures, assess penalties, and hear appeals of code enforcement decisions. It has seven members and two alternates. Members must be registered voters in the city or county. Alternates residing outside of the city must work in the city, own a in the city or pay municipal taxes. Only two non-residents are eligible for appointment Current members of the Building and Standards Commission are Arnold Taylor, Chris S. Coppedge, Paul Harper, Michael Miller and Pedro Gonzalez.
