The Yorktown Wildcats will travel to Skidmore on Friday, Sept. 12, for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats.
The Wildcats hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series, earning a 22-7 victory in 2004 and last year’s 61-46 shootout.
Yorktown looks to build on its offensive firepower from the season opener against Karnes City. Senior quarterback Brody Metting led the charge on the ground with 172 rushing yards, while receiver Matthew Olguin paced the air attack with 74 yards.
Metting, Clayton Schendel, and Brayden Knostman all found the end zone. On defense, middle linebacker Bryce Chandler tallied 10 tackles and a forced fumble, and Knostman added a fumble recovery.
Skidmore-Tynan enters the matchup after taking a heavy blow in week one with a tough 62-0 loss to Natalia. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football projects the Bobcats to finish fourth in District 162A Division I.
Last year, the Bobcats went 2-9 overall and 2-4 in district play and advanced to the bi-district round of the playoffs under new leadership. The program continues to transition from a power-run scheme to a pass-oriented offense, though finding consistency in scoring remains a priority.
Yorktown dropped its opener but still posted 48 points, showcasing the highpowered offense that will test the Bobcats’ defense Friday night. For Skidmore-Tynan to compete, they’ll need to establish a more dominant offense and keep pace with the Wildcats’ explosive attack.
