The Grief Share Program will once again be offered in Yorktown at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall beginning in September for a series of 13 sessions and we invite you to join us. TPA Breakfast

TPA will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 8:30 a.m. at Bahnhof Cafe on West Main in Cuero. All members and proactive members are invited to attend and enjoy breakfast with the group.

DeWitt/LaVaca County Democratic Women 

The DeWitt/LaVaca County Democratic Women will hold its monthly meeting on Sept. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p..m at Maya’s restaurant in Cuero. All are invited. VFW Chili & BBQ Cookoff

Get the BBQ bragging rights in Cuero at the VFW Post 3972 Chili & Bar-BQue Cookoff on Sept. 5-6. Categories include deviled eggs, margaritas, open meat, chicken, homestyle chili, jack pot beans, Tolbert (sanctioned) Chili, ribs, and brisket. Judges are needed. Yorktown Little League

Yorktown Little League will hold the annual general meeting to elect the Board of Directors for 2026 Sunday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. It will be in the Trust Texas meeting room, 225 E. Main St. in Yorktown. Good hardworking volunteers who want to ensure kids of the community have the opportunity to play baseball or softball and make the league the best imaginable are being sought. Brunch Buddies & Bingo 

Seniors 55 and older are invited to Brunch Buddies and Bingo on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to Noonin the Education Room at Cuero Regional Hospital. Seniors will enjoy a free meal, Healthcare presentation, and a few games of bingo with prizes! RSVP’s are required and open to the first 50 seniors only. Congressional Candidate Exploratory Visit

 Bobby Pulido, noted Tejano music superstar, will visit Cuero on Friday, Sept. 12, to hear concerns from DeWitt County constituents as a potential candidate for Congressional seat Texas District 15. DeWitt County is now located in District 15 after the Texas legislature recently redrew congressional district maps. That seat is currently held by Monica de la Cruz. With a thirtyyear career in music, Pulido is considering a potential run for Congress. Pulido holds a political science degree from St. Mary’s University. The event will be held at Taqueria Jalisco from noon to 2 pm and is sponsored by the Bobby Pulido Exploratory Committee. All are invited.

W4W’s ”A Day in the Country”

Weesatache 4 Warriors will host “A Day in the Country” at The Weesatche Community Center Saturday, Sept. 13, starting at 10 a.m. The event will honor active duty military, veterans, wounded warriors, first responders, their families and those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. There will be family fun activities and live entertainment. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m., opening ceremonies are at 10 a.m. and a chuck wagon lunch will be at 11 a.m. The address is 161 E. FM 884 in Goliad. Proceeds benefit local veteran and first responder groups.

80s Bingo

The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce hosts 80s Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the De-Witt County Veterans Center, 901 State Hwy 72. Doors open at 6 p.m., meal served at 6:30 with bingo following. Proceeds go toward student scholarships. Table of 8, $350; single ticket $45. Prizes for Best Decorated Table and 80s Attire. Tickets available at Chamber office or any board member, 361-564-2661.

Hermann Sons Life Bake Sale

The Weesatche Hermann Sons will hold a bake sale at the Weesatche 4 Warriors Event at the Weesatche Community Center Saturday, Sept. 13, starting at 10 a.m. All proceeds will benefit local veteran and first responder groups. In addition, the home office of Hermann Sons Life will provide matching funds. All are invited to come enjoy a fun day in the country and help us honor our military, veterans, and first responders.

Holy Cross Catholic Church annual festival 

Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown will be having their annual festival, Sunday, Sept. 14th at the Yorktown Community Hall, 60 Community Hall Road, Yorktown, Texas. Mass will begin at 9:30 am in the Church, 1214 Zorn Road. Famous homemade Polish sausage and BBQ beef shoulder clod with trimmings will be served for lunch. They will also open the country store and hold a cake walk and children’s activities. There will be musical entertainment and raffles, including music by the Rusty Steins, and a live auction. Bid on hand-crafted and unique donated items. Bidding begins at 1 p.m. Sign up early.

Suicide Prevention Month 

In recognition of Suicide Prevention Month, Cuero ISD invites the community to its annual Suicide Prevention Walk on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Gobbler Stadium. The event will feature food trucks, mental health and wellness vendors, free supplies, valuable resources, and music. Join us as we come together to raise awareness and support for this important cause. The event is sponsored by Cuero ISD and Pilot Club of Cuero.

Proper Care of Trees

Keep Cuero Beautiful will host a free educational program, “Proper Care of Trees” presented by DeWitt County Extension Agent Anthony Netardus, at the Cuero Public Library community room Thursday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. The program coincides with native plant month. Plow Day

Plow Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. It will be at the same location as before five miles noth of Yorktown on Hwy. 119. Signs will be posted. No entry fee. Enjoy turning some dirt. Call Ted Dlugosch at 361-215-2272 or Marvin Soester at 361-371-0487 for information.

Fall Sausage Feast

The Lindenau Rifle Club’s Annual Fall Sausage Feast will be held Sunday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-sale Tickets Only - $15 each. The meal consists of sausage, German potatoes, stuffed cabbage, and pinto beans. Plates are Drive Through only at the eating stand. Tickets can be purchased at Security Storage, 115 E. S. Railroad, the DeWitt County Co-op, and Anders Auto Supply, or from a Lindenau Rifle Club member, through Friday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. To pre-order fresh sausage by the pound, while supply lasts, call Curtis Koenig at 361-564-8148. Fresh Sausage will be picked up at the dance hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Women in Business Luncheon

The Cuero Chamber’s 2025 Women in Business Luncheon will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at The Venue on Church Street. Keynote speaker Clara Villarreal Varner, a former CIA Deputy Chief Scientist, will share her inspiring story of resilience, leadership, and success in STEM. Gonzales ICA Chapter Meeting 

The Gonzales Chapter of the Independent Cattleman’s Association of Texas will meet at VFW Hall, 3302 Hardwood Road in Gonzales Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. The program will include Stewart Pickett with Atzenhoffer’s Velocity Powersports on the Hired Hand Program and agency updates from the Texas Animal Health Commission. There will be a beef meal and all producers are welcome.

Martin Luther Lutheran Church Bazaar 

The Martin Luther Lutheran Church Bazaar will be held Saturday, Sept. 27 in Victoria. BBQ brisket and sausage with all the trimmings will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for dine-in or to-go. There will be a live auction at 12:30 p.m. The address is 2535 Coletoville Road in Victoria.

Sts. Peter & Paul Fall Festival

Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 11220 FM 237, Meyersville, TX Fall Festival is Sunday, Sept. 28. Enjoy our BBQ Meal - dine-in or to-go - available from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Plates are $15. Order of Christian Initiation

OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) begins Thursday, Oct. 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Yorktown. This process is for those interested in joining the Catholic faith, those needing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation), and those returning to the faith. Library/Crown Hospice Senior Social Hour 

Crown Hospice is holding a Senior Social Hour at the Yorktown Public Library on the 1st Monday of every month. The social hour begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Bingo, prizes and snacks are all provided free of charge. The hosts look forward to you attending.

DeWitt County Shutterbugs

 Do you love photography? Do you want to learn more, be inspired, challenged? Do you want to get together with other creative photographers? If so, please join us at a Shutterbugs meeting. Meetings are held on every third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Cuero Public Library in Cuero, 207 E. Main St. All ages and levels are welcome. Cuero VFW Bingo

Cuero VFW Post 3972 has resumed weekly games of Bingo at the Post Home. Games will begin at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds of these games benefit local charities, youth, and veterans in need. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Child Find Evaluations

School Districts must ensure that a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is provided for children who are identified as needing special education and related services. Child Find is a process to identify, locate and evaluate individuals from birth to 21 years of age who may need special education and related services. Evaluations for Cuero, Meyersville, Nursery and Westhoff ISD are available through Child Find. Early childhood intervention programs serve children with developmental delays and their families. Eligibility is determined through a team assessment by program staff. Please call Crystal Hamilton at 361-275-1903 to schedule an appointment.

Child Screening Services 

Residents of Yorktown, are you aware of a child with problems walking, seeing, moving or thinking? Free screening services are available for children from birth through five years of age. Call 361-5642252 ext. 3002 for an appointment. Screening will be held at Yorktown Elementary School.

Genealogy Library

Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed 

Volunteers are needed to help deliver meals in the central DeWitt County area for Meals on Wheels South Texas. Meals are delivered once a week on Wednesdays from about 11 a.m. to noon. If you are interested in volunteering you can go to mowstx.org or email [email protected].
