There will be a ‘payday someday’
Reading sermons by preachers and pastors of the past have been very enlightening to me. I remember being told of the famed pastor, R.G. Lee, of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN, about a sermon he gave called “Payday Someday”.
This sermon was given for the first time in 1919 to a church in South Carolina. It was so powerful that he traveled to several churches preaching it. I was told, but I cannot verify it, that he even came to my home church in North Mississippi in the 50s and preached it to standing room only crowd that extended out of the church doors. I was an adolescent at the time and not sure I was anywhere in attendance.
Having heard of the magnitude this sermon produced I researched it through a book called Payday Someday.
Its forward was written by Adrian Rogers, another famed pastor of Bellevue, whom I had the opportunity of hearing several times, and editors were Timothy and Denise George.
This sermon really opened my eyes of how the Lord takes care of His own and everyone that does evil or wrong reaps what they deserve in the end.
One should wonder what is going to happen to this world today, especially our Christian nation of America. Just as Mr. Lee talked about the Israelite King Ahab and how he was a lustful, but weak person, married to a devious and evil woman named Jezebel. Ahab was maneuvered and lied to by his wife and did harm to a Godly man named Naboth. Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard and offered to buy it from him or trade him a better vineyard for it. Naboth refused his offer because of Jewish inheritance customs and Ahab pouted over the loss. Jezebel seeing her husband distraught, conceived an evil scheme to get the vineyard away from Naboth and present it to her husband, the King. Even though Ahab was warned by Elijah, a prophet of God, about what would come to him, he knew it to be true but did not want to believe it.
As we look at what is happening in the world today and our country, it seems we are being lambasted by the undoing of our Christian principles. Taking prayer and Bible teaching out of our schools was the start of a downward spiral to our nation. The almighty dollar has become so important that businesses started opening on Sunday and our churches started watering down their services and messages to meet the criteria of a wayward people. All of us need to wake up and pay attention to what is happening around us because in the end God will win.
We need to realize what we are being told by the world can be deceiving. Just as Jezebel deceived King Ahab, it hurt a lot of people and some died because of her evilness. We are being told what is good for us and we need to be aware that God only knows what we are capable of and what is good for us, not man.
Our nation needs to turn back to God and His teachings. All of us should get into reading His Word and heeding what He let His people go through in biblical days. He will allow us to go so far, then He will intervene. God is and always will be in control. He allows us to make our own decisions whether they are good or bad. If we make decisions before we consult with our Lord and Savior, chances are we will pay for it in the end. These decisions could be about anything. It can be personal or business wise, but we need to let the Lord be in control knowing that there will be a Payday Someday.
If you do not know the Lord personally, I pray that you will go to your knees today and ask Him to forgive you or your sins and accept Him into your heart. This is a decision that you will never regret!
