The DeWitt Commissioners Court approved a proposal from Lightedge Solutions, LLC for offsite back up of data, to minimize the potential for loss from a ransomware attack at its Monday, Sept. 8, meeting.
The court also reviewed and approved the placing of Christmas displays on the courthouse lawn and approved an Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement with the City of Cuero for their placement.
In other action, the court:
• Approved permits for the installation of temporary water lines by Select Water Solutions, LLC along Kozielski Road and Dubose Ranch Road, in precinct 1and along Alfred Blasche Road, Simpson Road, Cabeza Road, and Harms Road in Precinct 3.
• Accepted Justice of the Peace Lindsay Ruppert’s certificate from the Texas Department of Public Safety for completing the Criminal Justice Practitioner Test training course.
• Authorized the county auditor to issue a purchase order to hold a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 at Lake Country Chevrolet in Jasper. It will be purchased in Fiscal Year 2026, which begins Oct. 1, as the 2025 budget did not include funds for the purchase•
• Approved County Auditor Neomi Williams monthly report. Her role is to provide oversight of all county financial operations. Appointed by the district judges, she reports to but does not answer to the Commissioners Court. This makes her an impartial “watchdog” as she maintains and administers financial records for all county funds, audits the accounts of all county departments, and verifies the validity and le- gality of all county disbursements, including those to external entities that receive county contributions such as Child Welfare Board and Cuero Livestock Show.
Judge Daryl Fowler announced that the 2nd Special Session of the Legislature adjourned with no date set for another session. The bill that would prevent county commissioners from using the services of a lobbyist was not enacted. Kim Moore from Senator Kolkhorst’s office was at the court meeting.
Judge Fowler has announced that he does not intend to run for reelection for the term beginning in January of 2027. Applications for a place on the March 2026 Republican or Democratic primaries may be filed with the respective party chairman beginning November 8 through Dec. 8, 2025. There is a filing fee which is believed to be a campaign expense, hence a candidate must designate a campaign treasurer prior to filing.
