When will the last call be?
How many of us ever think that today could be our last day on earth? Probably not many.
As the year 2020 ended I lost a dear friend to the tragic virus COVID-19. In the first few days of 2021 I lost another good friend due, as I was told, to a heart attack. I would be willing to say that neither one of them thought on that particular day they were going to their eternal home.
Both men were strong physically and mentally. They had good homes, with loving families. Knowing both as I did, they knew Jesus personally, but they did enjoy living life here on earth.
We are told in the gospel of Matthew 24:36, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.”
So many of us take life for granted and expect to live forever. All one must do is read the obituaries in the newspapers, on social media or listen to local radio stations to realize how many people are taken away from this earth every day. All of us need to think about how this nation is turning away from God and following worldly values that will lead us to destruction.
The words of 2 Timothy 3:1-7 tells of what is happening in todays society. It says that it will be perilous times. People will be lovers of themselves, money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, and unthankful. It also tells of children being disobedient to parents, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, lack of self-control, traitors and much more. It also says that people will have some form of godliness but denying God’s power.
We all know people like this and most of us will not speak up against their corruption. We tend to look the other way and let lies and deception slide by. I am sickened by some of our leaders and a deceitfulness taking place in our government. I am appalled at some of the news stations on television and the way they mislead their audiences with untruths. This is not only happening on a national level but on local levels as well. Even some of our churches find it hard to talk about the saving grace of Jesus because it might offend someone.
Our family units are breaking down due to lack of discipline and family time spent together. Our community is raising a lot of latch key kids and the outcome is not for the best. They are learning from people as portrayed in Timothy instead of the loving care and teaching in homes with Godly parents.
I have been thoroughly blessed because I was raised by Godly parents and grandparents. My wife and I tried our best to raise our children in a Christian environment and we have been thoroughly blessed. All of them are married, have children, and raising them in a Christian environment also.
All of us need to be ready because we do not know when we will be called to our eternal home. Hopefully, all of you that read this knows Jesus personally and will spend eternity with Him.
My two friends did not know that their last day would come so soon. I do know that both spoke of their salvation experience and I pray that they are sitting at the feet of Jesus praising Him at this time.
This is a sinful world, and it will lead you straight to Hades if you allow that to happen. We need to speak up against the corruption going on and spread the good news of Jesus to anyone that will listen to us. If you do not know Jesus personally, I pray that you will open your heart and accept Him today as your personal Savior. Who knows what tomorrow holds or even if we will be a part of it?
Prayer: Thank you Lord for being with me every day. Thank you for your guidance and your grace. I pray that I will be a witness for you to anyone I am around. Amen.
