Retired school workers start new year

The DeWitt County Retired School Personnel Association met at the Church of Christ activity building in Cuero to kick off the new year Tuesday, Sept. 16.

President Sandra Tate led the group, and yearbooks assembled by Patti Harbers were passed out.

A covered dish luncheon was served as members examined and bid on unique silent auction items. Proceeds from the auction help to fund a scholarship that DWCRSPA presents to a graduating senior in De-Witt County each year.

Several other public service projects for later in the year were discussed. School supplies were gathered to be distributed at an elementary school in the county.

The next business meeting will be held Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Cuero Municipal Library with Librarian Kaitlyn Meitzen providing the program. DWCRSPA will provide books to be distributed by the Deputy Santa program of the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department. The group will elect officers for the coming term at that meeting.

Any retired person who is part of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, regardless of where the service was rendered or in what capacity, is eligible to belong to the De Witt County Retired School Personnel. For more information about the organization, call Sandra Tate at 361-277-3053.
