RTICLE Families from near and far gathered to celebrate the annual Holy Cross Church Feast in Yorktown Sunday, Sept. 14. The event was held on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a significant date in the Catholic Church worldwide. Preparations for the event began in July.
Dedicated coordinators spent weeks securing raffle prizes, auction items, organizing volunteer schedules, and handling countless behind-the-scenes details that make the event possible.

The feast is truly a team effort—from stuffing parishioner letters in the church office to stuffing sausage made from a beloved age-old family recipe in the dining hall. Volunteers began food preparations on Saturday, baking cakes, peeling potatoes for potato salad, marinating cole slaw and cooking beans, while some spent overnight hours tending the pits to perfectly grill shoulder clod —all made with care and community spirit.
Children were thrilled by the huge bounce house and face painting, while older generations enjoyed live music by The Rusty Steins. Their heartfelt rendition of God Bless America brought the entire crowd to their feet, united in pride and joy.
The lively afternoon auction kept spirits high and bidders engaged, with a wide array of items generously donated by parishioners and local businesses.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this event possible: our tireless volunteers, those who donated raffle prizes, auction items, cakes, and funds, and all who came out to support Holy Cross. Your generosity and community spirit made this year’s feast both fun and successful.
Thank you for being part of our celebration— we are truly grateful.
