Arlon James Carpenter

Shelton and Claire Schendel Carpenter of Woodway, Texas, added a new member to their family on Sept 10, 2025. Arlon James Carpenter was born in Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Hillcrest in Waco, Texas, at 1:23 p.m. He weighed 8 lbs. 7 oz. and was 21 in. long.

Also welcoming Arlon to the family are his big sisters Elliot and Abbie.

Arlon’s maternal grandparents are Robert and Norma Schendel of Yorktown. His paternal grandparents are David and Cherilyn Sanderson of Waco, and Vint and Valeri Carpenter of McGregor, Texas.

Paternal great-grandparents are Lissette Carpenter of McGregor, Texas, and Sara Leal of Royce City, Texas.

Cuero First Responders Meet & Greet Cuero First Responders are inviting the public to attend their Meet & Greet to get to know their local law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS workers Wednesday, Oct. 1, 6 to 8 p.m. It will be at the intersection of East Main and North Clinton Streets.

DeWitt/LaVaca County Democratic Women DeWitt/LaVaca County Democratic Women will hold its monthly meeting on Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maya’s restaurant in Cuero. All are invited. Order of Christian Initiation for Adults begins Thursday, Oct. 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Yorktown. This process is for those interested in joining the Catholic faith, those needing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation), and those returning to the faith. Fall Harvest Festival Whispering Oaks Rehab & Nursing will host a Fall Harvest Festival at 105 Hospital Drive Friday, Oct. 3, 2 to 4 p.m. There will be snacks, games, crafts and music. Call 361243-6571 for information.

CRH Poinsettia deliveries

The Cuero Regional Hospital Volunteers are taking orders for Poinsettias to be delivered on Dec 6th. Orders can be placed at Bloomingdeals or the Wishing Well until Friday, Oct. 3.

Old Chisholm Fall Trail Ride

The Old Chisholm Fall Trail Ride is Oct. 3-5 at Oscar Gonzales’ Place at 511 CR 156 Kennedy Tx 78119. Buggies are welcome on this ride. Camping available. There will be a ride in the Cuero Turkeyfest Parade on Oct. 11. It will leave from the Rawhide Property at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Camping available for Friday night. There will be a ride in the Yorktown Western Days Parade on Oct. 18. It will leave from the Lion’s Club Park at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Camping available for all weekend. Riders will wear pink or white with pink accessories for the promotion of Breast Cancer Awareness in both of the parades. Riders should feel free to decorate your horses or wagons and buggies as well. The next regular meeting will be Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rawhide Property on Stratton Road.

St. Michael’s Catholic Daughter’s Court #347

St. Michael’s Catholic Daughter’s Court #347 will host its annual garage sale at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, 309 E. Church St. in Cuero Friday, Oct. 3, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 4, 8 a.m. to Noon. In addition to bargains there will be a raffle, country store and bake sale. Raffle tickets are $5 and can be purchased from a Catholic daughter, the church office or at the sale. The drawing will be at the end of the sale, and ticket holders do not have to be present. Donations will be accepted at the parish hall Tuesday, Sept. 30, through Thursday, Oct. 2, opening at 9 a.m.

2025 KCB Fall Sweep Keep Cuero Beautiful hosts the 2025 Fall Sweep for cleanup of litter in Cuero neighborhoods Saturday, Oct 4.

Keep TX Beautiful supports this cleanup with supplies. Teams and individuals should meet at 8:30 AM at the Cuero Market Pavilion for light breakfast, supplies, and assignments. After cleaning up assigned area by 11 a.m., all are to report to Environmental Services Dept. on E Broadway to weigh litter. Top three teams in weight of litter will receive $100 each to ‘pay forward’ to their favorite local non profit. Contact the Cuero Chamber, 361-2752112, to register team by Oct 2.

2026 Nordheim FFA Stock Show Lamb and Goat Validation The Lamb and Goat validation for the January 31, 2026, Nordheim FFA Stock Show will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Nordheim School FFA Barn. Breeding animals for these respective classes will also be validated. This is a mandatory weigh-in for validation, no exceptions. Market Steers are required to be present to weigh in. A clarification has been made in the Heifer Requirements Rules; Final Validation is Nov. 1. Hog division animals will have mandatory weigh-in during the Nov. 1 weigh-in. Questions or concerns? Life Chain is a nationwide peaceful, prayerful hour of silence on public sidewalks supporting the dignity of and right to life. Please join us on Sunday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. to pray for our nation, for the protection of women and children, and for an end to abortion. 103 E Broadway Street, Cuero.

Kaiser/Thiele family reunion

The 67th annual Kaiser/ Thiele family reunion will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Turner Hall, 6 miles west of Yoakum on State Hwy 111W. A BBQ lunch will be provided and we ask each family to bring a side dish and/or a dessert. Please bring a copy of the recipe with your dish or a copy of any of your favorite recipes you wish to share with everyone. Meat, bread, drinks, and paper goods will be provided. We will have silent auction tables set up with options for the children (infants to teenagers) as well as the adults. Each family is asked to bring an auction item(s) for an adult and/or a child. Come join us for a fun filled day with lots of visiting with family and of course good food.

5 Gun Raffle

The drawing will be held on Oct. 9 at the Turkeyfest Fun After Five. Only 200 tickets will be sold. $50 per ticket buys a chance to win one of the five guns in the exclusive raffle. Cuero Turkeyfest and Marriam Midway will be selling presale wristband carnival tickets for $20 each for the event on Oct. 10-11. You will redeem the coupon at the midway ticket booth for one wristband to used for one of the sessions listed below. Wristband times are as followed:Thursday: 6-10 Friday: 6-11 Saturday: Noon-5 or 6-11 Sunday: 1-7. You may purchase your ticket from Cuero Ranch House Spirits, Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Cuero Lube and Tire, or a Turkeyfest board member.. The last day to purchase tickets will be Thursday Oct. 9.

Restoration Foundation Celebration Join Tri-City Empowerment Council for a 3-Day Restoration Foundation Celebration from Oct. 10 through Oct. 12. The celebration will start on Friday with Urban Soul (Live R&B Band) with a BBQ dinner from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Friar Ag Center here in Cuero. The second event is the TCEC 4th Annual Gospel Fest held at the same location on Saturday from 1 to 6:30 p.m. with recording artist and producer Chester D. T. Baldwin, musical guest Christopher D. Spivey & Company, and Cuero Native Devyn Whittington. Also performing is Comedians Hazel Marie and Izzy. Join us in a celebration of worship and laughter hosted by Tri-City Empowerment Council sponsored in part with City of Cuero Hot Funds.

San Luis Catholic Church Garage Sale There will be a garage sale at San Luis Catholic Church at 520 E. Second Street in Yorktown Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lucky Draw Blood Drive

4-H & Youth Development of DeWitt County is sponsoring the Lucky Draw Blood Drive in Cuero at 115 N. Gonzales St. Monday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Every blood donor will receive a gift card valued at between $10 to $150. The goal is to collect at least 11 units of blood. To sign up people can call the Extension Office at 361-275-0816. Sign ups in advance are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome.

Western Days Decorating Contest There will be two categories in the Western Days Decorating Contest— Homes and Business Storefronts. Decorate up until the morning of Oct. 15. Judging will take place Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Email cc@visityorktowntx. com to enter the contest.

Cuero Little League

The Cuero Little League will hold its annual election of board members on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m., at the Cuero Little League complex.

Matejek Family Reunion

Yorktown Trunk or Treat Trunk or Treat will take place at Yorktown City Park Friday, Oct. 31, 6 to 7:30 p.m. There will be awards for best decorated Trunk, Table and Booth. Concert for Classrooms Set

The Cuero ISD Education Foundation will host the 2025 Concert for Classrooms featuring ABBAMANIA, the world’s #1 ABBA tribute band, on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Cuero Performing Arts Center. Proceeds benefit Cuero ISD students and educators through classroom grants and special programs. Tickets start at $45 and are available at www.cueroedfoundation. org/concert-forclassrooms.

The American Legion Dinter Post 3 The American Legion Dinter Post 3 will be hosting a Veteran’s Day Chicken BBQ on Saturday, Nov. 8. The proceeds will go to help local veterans in need and post home improvements. It will be held at the Legion Hall at 310 South Esplanade with pick-up from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at DeWitt County Coop and Ander’s Auto Supply. $15 donation for each chicken.

Yorktown EMS BBQ Yorktown EMS is holding our annual BBQ fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 9 at Yorktown Community Hall. All plates will be to-go. BBQ plates will include brisket, potato salad and beans. There will be a bake sale on site. This years funds will be used to help replace our stretchers which are over 10 years old and are at the end of life. Tickets will be available at Citizens Bank, Trust Texas Bank, EMS Members or online.

Yorktown Fall Festival The Yorktown Fall Festival will be held Sunday, Nov. 23, in the afternoon and evening at Yorktown City Park. The specific time will be determined and announced.

Yorktown Christmas Home Tours The Yorktown Christmas Home Tours will take place Sunday, Dec. 7, in the afternoon and evening. Specific times will be determined and announced. Organizers are looking for festive homes to feature. Library/Crown Hospice Senior Social Hour Crown Hospice is holding a Senior Social Hour at the Yorktown Public Library on the 1st Monday of every month.
