The Cuero Fire Department recently received a $6,500 grant from Enbridge Fueling Futures that helped the city update its firefighting equipment.
“The grant was awarded to the Cuero Fire Department after an application submittal,” Captain Clint Morris said. “This assisted in the purchasing of three different pieces of equipment.”
Morris said the city bought a Storm Stick Decon, an MSA Altair 5x Multi-gas Detector and a Seek Thermal FirePRO 300 with the grant.
The StormStick is used to assist in mitigating cancer risks after being exposed to toxins from a structure fire.
“Decontamination is a critical process that involves cleaning and removing harmful contaminants such as soot, toxins and carcinogens from firefighter equipment.,” Morris said. “Fire department agencies need to implement rigorous decontami-nation routines after every response to protect their health and prevent long-term illness.”
The MSA Altair 5 x Multi-gas detection will better assist awareness to toxic environments for resi- dence and fire fighters. It is capable of detecting LEL, O2, CO, H2S, and SO2 levels.

The Seek Thermal FirePRO 300 is a highresolution, lightweight thermal imaging camera designed for individual firefighters to enhance safety and situational awareness by revealing hidden heat, structural elements, and hazards in zerovisibility conditions.
The Cuero Volunteer Fire Department issued a statement thanking Enbridge Fueling Futures for the assistance. Enbridge Inc. is a multinational pipeline and energy company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It owns and operates pipelines throughout Canada and the United States, transporting crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids, and also generates renewable energy.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to Enbridge for selecting our department as a recipient of the Fueling Futures grant, which has enabled us to acquire essential equipment to enhance our emergency response capabilities,” the statement read.
Enbridge’s corporate statement says, “Enbridge Fueling Futures is about energizing communities, through partnerships and sponsorships that strengthen the safety, vibrancy and sustainability of our communities as well as through volunteerism and the generosity of our employees.”
