RTICLE A ribbon cutting and recognition ceremony attended by DeWitt and Lavaca County members was held at the Yoakum Community Garden Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The garden is a project led by the Yoakum Garden Club in cooperation with the DeWitt and Lavaca County Extension Agents, Denise Goebel and Natalie Knesel of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Members of the garden club, which included DeWitt County residents, completed the learning series, “Growing and Nourishing Healthy Communities” as part of the garden preparation.
Grant funds from the Better Living for Texans program were utilized to get the garden started. The garden has been a community-wide effort with support from the City of Yoakum, Sweet Home Sand and Gravel, Ranger Gate, Yoakum FFA, and Yoakum National Bank.
