It was a day of highfives, flashing lights, and heartfelt conversations as Cuero residents gathered on downtown Main Street for the town’s First Responder Meet-and-Greet Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Hosted by the Cuero Police Department, the event offered a chance for families to connect with the men and women who keep the community safe.
From fire truck tours to helicopter tours, the event was packed with activities designed to educate and engage. Families got to go around and meet local responders, visit with each other, and walk away with lots of goodies. The laughter of kids as they played in the bounce house and enjoyed snow cones could be heard.
Local firefighters showed off their firetrucks and handed out fire safety information and junior firefighter helmets to the kids. EMS gave ambulance tours and showed young minds the different life saving equipment used on the trucks. PHI, the helicopter company, flew in and demonstrated their life saving helicopter.

Families enjoyed free hamburgers and snow cones provided by local sponsors. Community leaders, including Mayor Emil Garza stopped by to thank first responders for their dedication and service.
In a show down of strength in numbers, the Cuero Fire Department and Cuero Police Department waged war on each other in a classic tug-ofwar competition where the Fire Department emerged as champions.
As the sun set and the lights of patrol cars faded, families left with a deeper appreciation for the people who are there when it matters most. In addition to the community thanking first responders, maybe a few future firefighters, EMS, and police officers in the making will come from the event.
