Renewing communication among family
Living in the South and having below freezing temperatures with snow and ice on the roads, have done wonders for many families. They are getting to know each other again. They are talking with each other, playing games,andwatchingmoviestogether.
The bad driving conditions and the cold weather are bad for some because of lack ofwork,butithasenhancedthetogetherness, verbal skills, and communication of your most cherished and closest family.
I do not want you to think that I do not realize the problems that also accompany the cold weather. There are many people that are suffering because of it and my heart goes out to them. Everyone should try to help each other, especially family members and the elderly that are alone. Check on them and bring them necessities that they need or take them into your homes and care for them when and wherever possible.
Family units are the backbone of this great nation. Its proud heritage was built on the love and companionship of families and friends. Its leaders were wise in their thinking and most were believers and followers of the Lord God. This wisdom and belief in Christ began in homes of where honor, love, trust, loyalty, and commitment to each other were taught and revered.
When we are experiencing the good times of life, many of us tend to forget whatandwhogotustowhereweare.We have let the opinions and actions of nonbelievers work their way of life into our lifestyles and it has created havoc among many families and even divided some. We have allowed many of our leaders and some of our churches to water down the message of Christ. Many have concluded that they do not need Jesus in their daily lives, and it has affected a whole generation of our people. The sanctity of life seems to be irrelevant to many and it has torn families apart.
Maybe the cold and treacherous weather is a way that God is getting our attention again. It appears in the last few years He has had enough of our squandering and missteps of taking care of the business He put us on earth to take care of. We have lost our way and allowed division in the family unit through ideas and ideals of a sinful world.
Everyone should heed the words of James 1:19-20; “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring abouttherighteouslifeGoddesires.” NIV Maybe this cold weather is a wake-up call for us. I know that my wife and I are staying with my daughter, her husband, her five children, and some of our other grandchildren. We have had a great time. We have gotten to visit and know each other much better than when we only get to visit for a few hours of time and then part our separate ways. Our family has been extremely blessed because we do communicate with each other. We visit one another and in difficult situations we help each other. The love of God abounds first and foremost and everyone of us realize where our blessings come from.
It is my hope that all families are like this, but I know there are many that are divided. Lack of communication drives families apart and the longer they are like this, the worse it gets. If you are a leader or a parent in your family, bring them together, love them, nurture them, and praise God with them and for them.
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus for the family you have given me. I am thankful that they know you personally and look to you for guidance. Amen.
