Message from the Mayor

Hello my fellow Cueroites: The Ruby’s Race Day Free Taco and Pancake breakfast is this Saturday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the downtown walkway. Please come out and enjoy a hot breakfast before the start of the Great Gobbler Gallup and the Turkeyfest Parade. Go Ruby Go!!! Slow Paycheck, Slow!

I met Gonzales Mayor Isaac Anzaldua and picked up donated bottled water from GVEC on Sept. 29. Mayor Anzaldua invited me to the Gonzales premier of “Texas Legacy in Lights,”,a movie showcasing the 200th Anniversary and history of Gonzales. The movie was shown at night and projected onto an entire wall of the Gonzales Memorial Museum. Awesome! The movie will now be a regular showing, a must see! I purchased tickets to Abba Mania, a tribute band showcasing the music of Abba, sponsored by the Cuero ISD Education Foundation, 2025 Concert for Classrooms. The show is Saturday Nov. 8 at 7:00 at the Cuero Performing Arts Center. Get your tickets before they are gone.

The First Responders ‘Meet and Greet’ was a huge success, attended by many of the city’s children. Thank you to the Cuero Police and Fire Departments, Emergency Medical Service, Emergency Management staff and other law enforcement partners from the local area. The firefighters remain this year’s champions of the annual tug-of-war. The kids were treated to hamburgers and drinks donated by local vendors and cooked by the Cuero Police Academy Alumni Association. The Life Flight helicopter was a big hit. Also on 1 October, the premier of the “Texas Chupacabra” episode by Expedition X, was shown on the Discovery Channel. The Expedition X crew were in Cuero this past January for a week of filming. On Oct. 3 Dewitt County hosted a meeting of the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Committee (GCRPC) at the Dewitt County Annex. Elected officials from the area were in attendance to learn about the duties and responsibilities of the GCRPC. I attended and met with senior citizens at the Whispering Oaks Rehab and Nursing fall festival, listened to concerns and took photos with the residents. Thank you for the invite.

This week Oct. 6-12 will be busy with Turkeyfest activities, The Worthington Minnesota delegation and Turkey “Paycheck” should be arriving in Cuero mid-week, the Mayor’s Dinner will be on Friday night Oct.10, which recognizes the Worthington delegation and both the Turkey Race teams. As mentioned, Saturday morning will host the Pancake and Taco breakfast at 7:30 a.m., the Great Gobbler Gallup at 10:30 a.m. and the Turkeyfest parade at 11 a.m. Many concerts are planned for all three days, plus the carnival is always a hit with the kids. Please come out and support your community. So much work by many volunteers and vendor donations occur to ensure a first-class event. Thank you, Turkeyfest Association for all their hard work. Cuero Gobblers are still undefeated, 60, great job!
