Yorktown faced its third district opponent, Bloomington, in a home contest Friday, Oct. 3.
The Yorktown Kitty Kats came out strong in the opening set, with Hayle Russell scoring the first point on a kill, followed by an ace. Carly Weischwill added another kill, and Claire Person responded with an ace and a kill, giving Yorktown a 10–5 lead.
Russell kept the momentum going with a diving hustle play that resulted in another kill, extending the lead to 11–5. Carsyn Brown added an ace for 13–6. After a few unforced errors by Bloomington, the Kitty Kats capitalizedwithadigfrom Brown, a set by Palyn Koopmann,andanoutside kill from Paige DeLeon. With Koopmann serving, Yorktown continued to pull away. Russell recorded another ace for 20– 13, and Evelyn Merks added an ace for point 24. On game point, DeLeon made a crucial dig that led to a setter push for the final point, closing the first set 25–14.
