Drivers in the Cuero area have been seeing quite a bit of highway construction for a while now. There have been bridge remodeling, road widening, sidewalk additions and more.
The three main projects include SH 72, FM 766 and FM240. These projects are be- ing overseen by TxDot and constructed by contractors.
The SH 72 with limits from FM 237 to US 87/US77A has been undergoing a widening project. According to Lucean Kuykendall with TxDot, this project should be wrapped up in the next year or so.
Construction that is wrapping up include the FM 766 with limits of US 183 to 3.87 miles north of FM 953. “We still need to do a little more hot mix work closer to town,” Kuykendall said. He added that this work should be complete within the next month or two.
Final project wrapping up is the FM 240 US 87 to 0.34 miles south of US 87. “Traffic is currently shifted to the new alignment,” Kuykendall said.
As for the work on Hwy 87 to Victoria, Kuykendall said that the state has been installing median cable barriers. “These barriers are an additional safety measure as they can prevent vehicles from crossing over into opposing traffic lanes on divided highways.
