Turkeyfest has come and gone, but the memories will last a lifetime.
Friday’s headliner the Frontmen opened the weekend with an amazing show and a full crowd. DJ Shane Wilke rounded out the night.
Saturday morning started off with a bang, with Ruby’s Community Breakfast. The highlight of the morning came just shortly after with the kick-off of the Great Gobbler Gallop. State Representative AJ Louderback set off the race in great style.
The turkeys were off. Paycheck came flying out the gate, with Ruby close behind. Paycheck then bound for the finish line coming in first place, with Ruby strutting down the street in pure fashion coming in second.
After two heats, Paycheck came out victorious over Ruby. Turkeyfest President sent Paycheck’s race team away with lasting words “It’s not over til September” After the race setting the tone for the day the official Turkeyfest Parade kicked off.
The parade winners were first place Yoakam Chamber of Commerce, second was Fayette County Fair Association and third was Hallettsville Royal Court. In small business category first was Cuero Vet Clinic. Second was Cuero family jujutsu and third was new ventures multiservice. In the youth group category first was Life-Way Baptist school second was DeWitt County 4H and third was Saint Michael’s Catholic school. In organization category were first for Cuero Lady gobbler volleyball second was Cuero high school band and third was Cuero FFA. For best auto club there was street sweeper car and truck best dressed auto was 361 devils bait and tackle and best overall float was CYFL little gobbler‘s freshman football team.
As the parede came to an end everyone headed on over to the park for the other festivities. Music started at noon with DJ Shane Wilke at the pavillion, then headed on over to the main stage where Broken Alibi started the live entertainment for the night.
Laughter and giggles could be heard from all around as families enjoyed a fun filled day of carnival rides, the petting zoo, animal races and so much more. Vendors were lined up ready to go, from 3D prints to painting, clothes, toys, and so so much.
Before DJ Shane ended the night, Craig Morgan wooed the crowd by playing his classics such as, Almost Home, Redneck Yacht Club, Bonfire, and International Harvester. Sunday opened up with once again DJ Shane with Shane and Renee Total Entertainment, taking the stage to provided music leading up to Sundays Headliner Gene Watson.
Kids enjoyed a Turkey egg hunt, animal races, and some Cowboy cooking at the Chuck Wagon. The main festivities end with a kids Tractor Pull where “Records were broken and History was made” according to the Official Turkeyfest-facebook page. Tractor pull results for our 4 to 5 year-old age division first place was Cullen Lemley, second place was Madden Fikac, and third was Wyatt Lemley. For the 6 to 7 division first place was Ada Lemley second place was Daxton White in third was Davis Kainer. For the 8 to 9 year-old division first place with a record of five full pulls was Heidi Adams, second place was Zaydyn Perez, and third was Kaelynn McGraw. With Gene Watson carving out the end of the day, The 53rd annual Turkeyfest came to an end. Until next year! Go Ruby Go!
