The Yorktown Wildcats claimed their first district victory of the season in commanding fashion Friday night, Oct. 10, defeating the Pettus Eagles 59–0 on the road.

The Wildcats’ defense was relentless, holding Pettus scoreless for a complete shutout.

Yorktown wasted no time putting points on the board, with McKenzie Yanta breaking through for a 15-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. Brody Metting followed with a successful two-point conversion to give the Wildcats an 8–0 lead with 10:18 remaining in the quarter.

Metting struck again with a 9-yard touchdown run midway through the quarter, and after converting another twopoint try, the Wildcats extended their lead to 16–0. Yanta then set up another scoring drive with a 25-yard run, putting Metting in position to score from 8 yards out, making it 24–0.

Defensively, Yorktown kept the pressure on. Brayden Knostman intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards before being stopped just short of the goal line. Yanta finished the drive with a touchdown, though the Wildcats missed the two-point attempt, ending the first quarter up 30–0. Yorktown’s defense continued to dominate, recovering a fumble on the 35-yard line late in the first quarter.

The game grew tense as two Pettus players were ejected during the second quarter. With 7:28 remaining in the half, Metting added another touchdown with a 2-yard run, pushing the score to 38–0. He would score again just before halftime from one yard out, and Clayton Schendel converted on the two-point conversion making it 46–0 going into the break.

In the third quarter, Matthew Olguin added to the tally with a touchdown, followed by Aaron Lukes’ successful kick, extending the lead to 53–0. Knostman capped off the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown dash, sealing the 59–0 victory after the extra point attempt fell short.

The Wildcats’ balanced offense and rocksolid defense set the tone throughout the game, securing a statement win in their first district matchup.

Yorktown will look to carry this momentum into next week’s game when they face Charlotte.
