Six Yorktown churches are hosting a community Thanksgiving gathering for all residents of the city and surrounding communities at Gruenau Hall Sunday, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m.
The event will include a full dinner, along with fellowship, gospel music and a sing along. About 200 people are expected to attend the free event.
The gathering is an annual event that started in 2017, said Tonie Powell, ministry assistant at the First Baptist Church of Yorktown.
“The atmosphere feels like a family reunion,” Powell said. “This has always been the magic of Thanksgiving. It should not be a day on our calendar but a way of life.”
Powell cited Psalm 95:2.
“Let us come into his presence with Thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!” she said.
The six churches sponsoring the event and donating the food are First Baptist Church of Yorktown, Holy Cross & San Luis Church, Yorktown United Methodist Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church and First Assembly of God. The benefactors of Gruenau Hall provide the space for the event.
