The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum’s German English School was the venue this month for the quarterly meeting of the Small Museums of South Texas group. The Chisholm Trail Museum as well as the Cuero Heritage Museum, the Pharmacy and Medical Museum, and the DeWitt County Historical Museum partnered to host 32 representatives of museums from Cuero, Orange Grove, Palacios, Pleasanton, George West, and La Grange.
Speaker Karen Locher related the story of Old Indianola and its influence on the growth of neighboring towns, especially Cuero. Locher, head librarian at the University of Houston Victoria campus, also introduced members to the recently established Victoria Regional History Center on the campus of UHVC which she curates.
Users of the facility can find collections of photos and historical memorabilia that have been gathered over the years. The Center is always adding to those collections. Locher’s mother (noted Victoria historian Patsy Hand) has worked on German and Lithuanian immigration in South Texas as well as work on Indianola at the Regional History Center.
