GOD first...Heavenly Father, as we are searching for those in need or those who are not able to help themselves, we see a variety of chances that are always present. Lord, we sometimes make decisions or choices that aren’t always enough to help as much as we are able. Help us to become better stewards of our intentions and open our hearts to those around us as You give us Your Amazing Grace each and every day. We pray in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pray for those who are ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harm’s way.
A blonde went into a store and asked the clerk to show her a TV. The clerk immediately said, “We don’t sell to Blondes!” She walked out in a huff.
A few hours later she returned to the same store and told the clerk that she wanted to buy a color TV. The clerk told her, “We don’’t sell to blondes.” She stomped out again.
This time she brought her lawyer who also was also a blonde and told the clerk, “I want to buy a TV and if you don’t sell me what I want, me and my lawyer will sue this store and you too!”
The clerk was unfazed, “I told you twice, we don’t sell to blondes. This is a microwave store.”
On Thursday, the 23rd of this week, the Lutheran Parish Hall in Nordheim, will be giving flu shots during our Koffee Klatch starting at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. If you haven’t had your flu shot yet, this will be an excellent time.
Our Kaffee Klatch met at the home of Dennis and Carolyn Schlinke’s home with 10 people attending. A variety of subjects were discussed, such as those of us that grew up during World War 2 and times before, when country and towns people were struggling to make a living. As sons and fathers went off to war, families of all types worked and brought in junk iron to help further the war effort. Us kids would give a quarter to buy a stamp to paste in our book which when full at $18.00, it would be turned into a War Bond which yielded $25 in 10 years. What I don’t remember is, how much money the government would give when a ton of scrap iron was collected. One of my classmates went through college many years later as her father bought many bonds and put it all in her name. He later was broke, and she was lucky that he couldn’t touch any of those bonds.
We all remembered the times when mothers would make sure that when the father went to the feed store to get chicken feed, they were told to get a certain feed sack that was the same or different color pattern (checkered in small or large squares). The housewife or grandma always sent along a swatch of the color cloth they needed. If one of the sacks they needed was at the bottom of the pile, the store worker would have to take all the sacks off the pile to get to the one that was the right one and be very careful that they didn’t tear a hole in the sack either. These sack cloths were made into dresses, shirts, blouses, under pants, or whatever was the need at the time. Each sack of chicken feed weighed a hundred pounds and there was hell to pay if one of the sacks had a tear.
Mamas were like that. If mama didn’t trust daddy to get the right one, she often went to town with him. And if two women wanted the last blue checkered one, there ensued the darndest fight of hair pulling you ever saw. When the fight was on, screams were heard, and hair was flying all through the dust of the feed store. Nearby beer joints emptied to witness the fight, and bets were taken up to see which one would be the winner. All the fighting was not always done overseas. Some was done right here at home. It really happened at the Nordheim Feed & Gin Co-op many years ago. Just ask anyone living if it’s true. That is if you can find one. See you next week.
