Cuero native Kayla Lynn Shaffer was recently promoted to general manager of DeWitt County Publishing.
Shaffer, who has worked for the Cuero Record and Yorktown News-View newspapers since April 2024, will immedi- ately assume responsibility for the management of the two newspapers’ operations. Shaffer began as bookkeeper in April 2024 and in October of the same year she took over sales marketing operations as well.

Much progress is anticipated because of Shaffer’s promotion to general manager, said Mandy Farrow, regional publisher for San Marcosbased Texas Local Media, the owner of De-Witt County Publishing.
“Kayla has proven herself to be an effective manager in her previous roles, and we look forward to seeing her employ the same skills in the total operation of the newspapers,” Farrow said. “We believe the community will appreciate the improvements she makes.”
Shaffer, who graduated from Cuero High School in 2007, said she is looking forward to greater involvement in the community. Making sure the newspapers serve all the interests of the community is a priority, she said.
“I love being out in the community,” Shaffer said. “The people are amazing, and I feel blessed to work for the newspapers.”
Prior to starting work at the newspapers, Shaffer worked as a corrections officer in Caldwell and Hays counties.
Shaffer, who is 36, is married to Myranda Trentman-Shaffer who is a parttime staff writer for the newspapers and works for Cuero Regional Hospital as an EMS paramedic. They have three daughters — two preteen and one sevenyear- old — and are active in their education and extracurricular activities.
