Lady Gobblers prepare for playoffs

The excitement of high school volleyball is in the air, especially for the passionate fans of the Cuero Lady Gobblers.

The team has had a season filled with ups and downs, but their dedication to the game shines through, especially as they gear up for the upcoming playoffs. Recently, the Lady Gobblers faced the challenging LaVernia team on October 21, taking a hit in all three sets with scores of 9-25, 16-25, and 925. Despite the defeat, the Lady Gobblers had highlights throughout the match.

Jessa Cox emerged as a key player for Cuero, leading the offense with six kills. Her performance was complemented by Reagan Reitz, who contributed significantly with six assists. In addition to her offensive on the court, Cox displayed her strength at the service line, leading the team with three aces. Although the outcome was not what the team hoped for, these performances highlighted the talent within the Lady Gobblers roster.

The following match against Navarro on October 24 provided a tougher challenge, yet the Lady Gobblers showed heart. Although they fell short, losing in three tightly contested sets (22-25, 21-25, 21-25), the match illuminated the offensive capabilities of the team. Caroline Kubesch stepped up, leading the way with 10 kills—a testament to her skill under pressure. Stella Maldonado also played a pivotal role, dishing out 16 assists and helping to create scoring opportunities for her teammates. Kubesch again stood out at the service line, matching Cox’s performance from Tuesday, with three aces.

Despite these tough matches, the Lady Gobblers ended the regular season with a commendable thirdplace finish in the district behind LaVernia and Navarro. This achievement sets the stage for their next challenge: a playoff match against Devine (23-17) on Thursday, October 30, at 6:00 PM in the Goldie Harris Gym at Seguin High School. “Our team has put in the work to be at our best when it matters most,” head coach Leah Flores said. “We’re excited for the first round against Devine and confident in the way we’re playing right now. We believe we are peaking at the right time and can’t wait to compete.”

In preparation for the playoffs, the Lady Gob-blers have scheduled a warm-up game against Austin St. Michael’s on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 5 p.m.. Facing off against a formidable opponent with a season record of 31-12-1, this match will provide an excellent opportunity for the team to sharpen their skills and build momentum heading into the playoffs The Lady Gobblers have shown that they have the talent and drive to compete at a high level. As the postseason approaches, fans remain hopeful that the Lady Gobblers can channel their season’s experiences into victory, making a deep run in the playoffs. Cheer on the Lady Gobblers as they embark on this exciting journey— let’s fill the stands and show our support!
