GOD first...Heavenly Father, we give thanks for all You do for us in so many ways. We only ask for those who are in need for just a little bit of help in finding a way to be a little better servant to their fellow man. We are all searching for strength, faith, and hope as we look to You for help and understanding. We ask in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus. Amen. Pray for those who are ill, grieving, suffering, or are in harms way.
Otto and Herman were playing golf on day and Otto was standing over his tee shot for what seemed to be an eternity. He waggled, looked up, looked down, waggled again, but didn’t start his back swing. Finally, his golf partner, Herman asked, “What the heck is taking you so long?” “Hilda is up there watching me from the clubhouse,” Otto explained. “I want to make a perfect shot.” “Goodness Gracious!” Herman exclaimed. “Just take you’re shot. There’s no way you’re going to be able to hit her from here!”
Fortune has come to Nordheim. Having to go to towns a long distance from here, we now have someone here that is local, lives on my block, and is in walking distance. “Beauty by Jacqui” has opened her beauty shop almost in my back yard on Berry Street. Some of our locals have discovered her shop and already took advantage of the facilities. If you need to have hair done, haircut, or get your toe nails cut, all you need is to make an appointment by calling her number. (361491-1614). Best days to make an appointment is on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. She already knows most of the people in Nordheim and while I was getting my hair cut, we discussed where some of the mutual friends lived. She also has a daughter, Jullian Danton, who goes to school here in Nordheim. If you are local, her shop is behind her house which was once owned by Hazel & Albert Payne. Preston Payne, their son, graduated from Nordheim High School and also was married to Kathy, our former Mayer. Many, many years ago. Hazel worked in the School Lunch Room for many years and was known for her fresh baked pies.
Nordheim FFA Booster Club is having a Chicken Plate Dinner on November 16th, from 11am to 1pm and will be held at the Nordheim Shooting Club Dining Hall. All tickets can be pre-sold before November 14th. Go on face book, just about everybody knows who are selling tickets.
On the 23rd of October, last week, we had 14 people at Kaffee Klatch. The coffee was good and we had plenty of snacks to munch on, thanks to the ladies that brought them. It was also the time to get our flu shots. There was one in our group that wasn’t going to get his flu shot because he is very adamant, fiercely determined, that he wasn’t stuck by any needles. If six grown men tried to hold him down, he said he would fight to the death to avoid getting a shot. Right after the Korean War while we were preparing to go overseas from El Paso, Texas, we were marched to a Medical Center and ordered to stack our rifles, helmet, shirts, and gear which was about a hundred yards away. We went in single file between a line of medics that gave sots in one shoulder and then the other. There was one man who was the tallest, meanest looking, strongest one in our group. He told our Commander he wasn’t taking any shots and nobody was going to put a needle in his arm. After giving him a direct order or sent to the brig for a year, he decided to go down the line and get his shots. As he got his first shot, he fainted before everybody and each medic gave him a shot they were assigned to give and when he came to, the Commander said, “Now, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” The rest of us had to run back to our equipment and rifles all the way. Some fainted from the reaction of the shots while we were waited for all the troops to get back. Never knew what ever happened to him afterward.
On Saturday, 25th, our Junior/Senior Class held a 5K Fun Raiser while the Booster Club sold hamburgers at their Halloween Carnival. It was a great success as games were played and a cake walk was held. On Sunday, the Nordheim Museum was open from 11am to 1pm. Plans are being made to open every fourth Sunday of the next few months.
Christmas in Nordheim will be held on the 7th of December, from 10am to 6pm at the Nordheim Fire Station. More details are coming in the next edition. See you later.
