The Yorktown Wildcats’ defense continued its dominant run Friday night, Oct. 24, powering the team to a 44-0 road victory over the Louise Hornets.
With the shutout, the Wildcats improved to 61 overall and 3-0 in district play, while the Hornets fell to 2-6 and 1-2 under new athletic director and first-year head coach Coach Murrah.
Yorktown’s defense has been the backbone of its district success, allowing only 16 total points across three district wins. Against Louise, the Wildcats completely stifled the Hornet offense, controlling the line of scrimmage and forcing mistakes throughout the night.
Adam Serbin and Bryce Chandler continue to set the tone defensively, averaging 8.8 and 7.3 tackles per game, respectively. Chandler has also been a force in the pass rush, creating seven quarterback hurries this season. In the secondary, Brayden Knostman and Clayton Schendel have been lockdown defenders, combining for five interceptions as the Wildcats’ standout cornerbacks.
On offense, McKenzie Yanta opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful conversion for an 8-0 lead. Quarterback Brody Metting connected with Mathew Olguin for an 80-yard touchdown and added a conversion run himself to make it 16-0 late in the first quarter.
Yanta struck again on a 9-yard run early in the second quarter, pushing the score to 24-0 at halftime. In the third, Metting and Olguin linked up once more for a 55-yard touchdown, and Yanta’s conversion extended the lead to 32-0. Metting later added a quarterback keeper for 38-0, and Braden Wildey capped the shutout late in the game, sealing the 44-0 win.
With a defense that has allowed just 16 points in district play and an offense that keeps delivering big plays, Yorktown continues to prove it’s a strong contender in district competition.
