The Kitty Kats wrapped up their district play in District 282A, competing against Falls City, Kenedy, Pettus, and Bloomington.
Falls City clinched the district championship with an undefeated record, while the Kitty Kats finished 5-3, tying with Kenedy for District Runner-up. Pettus finished fourth in the district, meaning Bloomington will not advance.
Under new leadership with head coach Patti Zenner, the Kitty Kats have been improving since the start of the season, focusing on fundamentals and developing into a cohesive unit of girls who play as a solid team.
The team celebrated their last home game and senior night, recognizing seniors Carsyn Brown, Hayle Russell, and Carly Weischwill. The Kitty Kats closed out the season with a victory over Pettus, winning 25-11, 25-17, and 25-21.
With so many returners, the Kitty Kats will look to build on last year’s playoff experience and this year’s improvement to make a playoff run. Last season, the team was eliminated in bi-district play after having missed the playoffs the year before. This season, they hope to capture their first playoff win since 2015.
The Kitty Kats and Kenedy will represent District 28 2A in Division I, while Falls City and Pettus will compete in Division II. Yorktown is set to face Schulenburg in the playoffs. The Shorthorns finished 8-2 in district play. As a warmup, the Kitty Kats will host Nixon-Smiley on Monday at 5:00 p.m. before heading into postseason action.
