The local pet rescue and shelter was the recipient of a special visit and “work day” recently from the staff of Yoakum Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Not only did the team arrive ready to pitch in with the many shelter duties but they also brought a bevy of cat and dog food and shelter supplies too.
The PAOC shelter appreciates this major business’s efforts to support our local non profit. Pet shelters all over the country are going through tough times with an abundance of pets being dumped or abandoned at already overcrowded shelters. Fewer adopters are coming out to adopt or foster a homeless shelter pet. Pet food costs have risen and veterinary expenses to rehabilitate sick, wounded or unvetted pets all add up. Shelters have non stop expenses especially with the large roster of homeless cats and dogs in their inventory.
Since inception PAOC has vetted all adoptable pets with shots, tests, flea meds, spay or neuter at maturity and for the last two years each pet is microchipped.
