RTICLE Yes, those puppies are adorable but anyone in the senior “or close-to-senior set should seriously rethink adopting any pet under 1-year old.
Young pets are obviously high energy, may have bad habits to retrain and can turn a quiet household into turmoil. At Pet Adoptions of Cuero we love to brag and extol the virtues of mature pets that range in the 3- to 10year age group.
For dogs this will likely mean one that will curl up at your feet, try to snuggle on that empty but inviting lap, be accustomed to a set routine of eat, sleep, potty outdoors, sniff around for a bit, return to the comfort of home and start all over again.
Senior cats can become super affectionate once they know they have a stable home and a window sill to entertain themselves. A sandbox changed daily, fresh water and vittles close by are all they need to know this is their happy homestead.
Most senior pets at the shelter have come from homes or families that for one reason or another must relinquish their furbabe. Once at the shelter, the pet does become disoriented.
Noise, lack of human interaction, change of diet, etc. all make the transition a bit of a challenge. PAOC makes every effort to find them new homes with similar circumstances as soon as possible.
PAOC invites new potential pet adopters that fall into the 50-and-up age demographics to see how rewarding it is to give golden-ager pets a new forever home. Yes you need a pet and this pet needs you. They just need a chance to live out the rest of their days, loved, cared for, safe, and cherished.
Pet Adoptions of Cuero is open every day of the year from 8 a.m. until noon at 407 U.S. Hwy. 183 South in Cuero. Are you a Grandpa or Grandma that wants to give pet love a try? Come to PAOC soon. More info: 361-243-8550
