Hello my fellow Cueroites: It’s been a busy two weeks. The Texas Municipal League (TML) conference was very productive, and I met the mayors of Lockhart, Bastrop, Mt. Enterprise and Fort Stockton. I accepted new metal signs designating Cuero as a Gold Level Scenic City at the conference.
I arrived back in Cuero on Friday, Oct. 31 at 11:30 a.m., and I visited with the seniors at the Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation’s Halloween Carnival, playing games and taking photos with the residents.
On Nov. 6, Channel 25 (Victoria) interviewed myself and the Community Work Squad from the Stevenson Unit. The station was doing a story on the work squad assisting in putting up and taking down the Christmas in the Park scenes.
Also on Nov. 6, Senator Lois Kolkhurst dropped by City Hall to visit with the staff. She met with myself, the city manager, and the executive directors from both the Chamber of Commerce and the Cuero Development Corporation. Each gave the Senator an update on what is going on in their respective areas of responsibility. On Nov. 8, Keep Cuero Beautiful Committee passed out Crepe Myrtle and Oak trees to Cuero residents, and 100-plus trees were distributed.
The Concert for Classrooms, ABBAMANIA (CANADA) sponsored by the Cuero ISD Education Foundation was well attended. The highlight of the night was the Cuero Mayor (me) being escorted on stage to sing and dance with the performers.
This coming Tuesday, Nov. 11, will be Veterans Day so please thank a Veteran for their service. I have been invited to speak to the significance of Veterans Day at Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Remember the opening ceremony for this year’s Christmas in the Park, which will be on Monday Nov. 24, at 6:00 p.m. at the park clubhouse. Please come by and see the new scenes.
Applications are now being accepted for the fourth Citizens Police academy at the Cuero Police Department, please consider attending.
