Wildcats set for Bi-District showdown against Agua Dulce

The Yorktown Wildcats will face the Agua Dulce Longhorns in the Bi-District round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs in Refugio Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.

Agua Dulce competes in District 16-2A Division II alongside Ben Bolt, La Villa, and Woodsboro, finishing 21 in district play. The Longhorns closed out the regular season with a 68-37 loss to La Villa, but notched wins over Woodsboro (28-6) and Ben Bolt (50-22) earlier in the year. They enter the postseason with a 73 overall record.

Agua Dulce features a balanced offense, averaging 156 passing yards and 148 rushing yards per game, giving them a steady attack through both the air and the ground. Senior Aiden Martinez leads the Longhorn rushing game with 148 yards per game, while senior receivers Lane Ranly and Bryan King contribute 57.8 and 48.2 receiving yards per game, respectively. Last season, the Longhorns reached the playoffs but were eliminated in the Bi-District round by Falls City.

The Wildcats will bring their trademark ground-and-pound offense led by Brody Metting and McKenzie Yanta, who average 132 and 94 rushing yards per game, respectively. In the passing game, Metting will look to connect with Matthew Olguin, Clayton Schendel, and Brayden Knostman, who average 26, 20, and 12 receiving yards per game.

Historically, Yorktown holds the advantage in the all-time series, leading 5–3 over Agua Dulce. In their most recent meeting, the Wildcats dominated with a 56–6 victory.

Since both teams were eliminated in this round of the playoffs last year, this matchup carries added motivation. Each will be looking to advance further than before, setting the stage for a high-stakes playoff battle.
