Yorktown High School

Yorktown High School seniors, accompanied by Yorktown Secondary Government teacher Mr. Blaschke, recently attended a civic engagement luncheon in Yoakum where they had the opportunity to hear from prominent state and local officials. Students met with Jeanie Seidel, DeWitt County Republican Party Chair; AJ Louderback, Texas State Representative; and Jon West, Judge for the Texas 13th District Court of Appeals. The luncheon’s featured guest speaker was Justice Jon West, who currently serves on the Texas Supreme Court. Throughout the event, students learned about the roles of elected officials, the importance of civic participation, and how state government impacts communities like Yorktown. The luncheon provided seniors with a firsthand look at public service and an opportunity to ask questions about leadership, lawmaking, and the judicial system. Yorktown ISD extends its appreciation to the event organizers and the invited officials for supporting student learning beyond the classroom.
