Heroes put out fire, save 5 tiny lives

Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department firefighters battled a house fire in the 600 block of West Kraege St. Sunday morning about 4:30 a.m .

The blaze was quickly contained, but he house was a total loss. No injuries were reported, and all occupants of the home were accounted for, according to YVFD.

In the mix of the chaos, the fire department was able to save the lives of five puppies.

“Thank you to all the first responders who assisted on the scene,” DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator Lt. Bethany Hobbs said. “Your commitment, courage, and compassion continue to make a difference in our community. Heroes don’t just put out fires, sometimes they save tiny lives too.”

The fire is still under investigation by the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office.
