GOD first...Heavenly

GOD first...Heavenly Father, there are always one of two people searching for ways to be of service to their fellow man. They can’t find words or deeds to connect to people that they think need help of one way or another. Most of us find ourselves in that position one time or another too. Lord, help us in our attempts to give whatever is needed as we ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

A man gets home early and finds his wife, engaged in the bedroom with his business partner. The dishonored husband challenges his partner in an old fashions duel. They agree.

Whoever manages to shoot first and kills the other gets to have the wife and the company. They agree. The wife is left in shock.

They move their altercation to the back yard of the house to do their deed so as not to bloody up the inside of the house. Leaving the wife inside the house, they devise a plan to shoot their pistols into the air and fall over on the ground as if they are dead, and the one she goes to first will certainly prove who she really is in love with, and he wins her and the company. They shake hands and fire the pistols into the air. Hearing the shots, she runs to the back yard and sees both men on the ground then races back into the house to the bedroom and shouts, “Honey, you can come out from under the bed. Now, Sweetheart, we can have each other and the company. They just killed each other.” I did say she was a blond?

This past week has had so many ups and downs that challenges one’s being. In ones’ life, there is always times like this that, knowing we are not alone, there others that face the same problems and the same joys.

This past week we heard that my brother Robert, has cancer and will be going to Houston, at M.D. Amderson, to get a second opinion. He will be the first of the Pargmann siblings to have to struggle with the deadly C. Keep him in your prayers.

Our pastor here at St. Lutheran Church, Pastor Kay Johnson, gave her last sermon at our church this past Sunday and is now going to Shiner to be pastor there. She has been retired but has again answered the call for a new pastor there. We wish her the best. She has been a wonderful and delightful pastor and we know she will be fit into the congregation in Shiner. A dinner reception was held in her honor and we hated to see her leave us as she, with tears, expressed the gratitude for our church members and the friendships she made while here.

On the last Sunday of this month, we will have a new and exciting pastor officially begin her ministry. We have heard her before and you can be sure that you will not need your hearing aids to hear her speak. She is the daughter of a retired pastor and if she is anything like him and his preaching, we all look forward to an exciting beginning.

I made coffee at Koffee Klatch last Thursday at 6 a.m. and then went to Victoria to an appointment with my dermatologist at 9 a.m. When I got there a little early, I decided to wait and wait and wait. Wasted my whole day. Will call him Monday to try and find out what happened. Eleven people showed up for coffee. Larry didn’t make it either.

Went by Yorktown Manor and had a nice visit with Gilda Mae Rogge and later went to visit with Norlene Ckodre in Cuero Nursing Home. Sure hope I brightened their day. It made me feel good too.

Went to a Memorial for Raymond Wilder of Corpus Christi. He and Helen Marie (Pargmann) had been married for 69 years. The Memorial was held at the Lutheran Church in Runge. They both attended church there and Helen Marie was once the church organist.

See you next month.
