Elaine Gohlke Arnecke passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 95, at La Bahia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goliad, Texas.
She was born on April 17, 1929, to Roland Gohlke and Elizabeth Alves Gohlke. She married Eugene B. Arnecke on October 18, 1948. They had been married 47 years.
She was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Weesatche, Texas, where she was the pianist/organist for many years.
Elaine was a person of many talents. She sang in the choir and sang with other individuals for special occasions. She was a member of the Weesatche Garden Club and Ladies Aid at church She took oil painting lessons from Dalhart Windberg in Goliad. Her style was very reflective of his teaching. She was also a member of the Victoria Art League and gave private art lessons. She was well known for her oil paintings of Bluebonnets, hummingbirds, and still life.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Arnecke; her parents, Roland and Elizabeth Gohlke; her sister, Amlyn (Paul) Hrncir; brother- in-law, Jackie Dunkin; and son-inlaw, Earl W. Shahan.
She is survived by her two daughters, Yvonne Arnecke Meharg (John) and Gail Arnecke Shahan; her middle sister, Marlene Dunkin; grandchildren, Brandon Arnecke Meharg and his children, Alice and Katherine, Brooke Elaine Meharg and her son, Braxton Bueno.
Funeral services and burial were held at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Weesatche, Texas.
