The Yorktown Varsity Cheerleaders will make history this year when they compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando — a first-time achievement for the school’s cheer program.
The team earned the prestigious bid after an outstanding performance at the UCA Houston Regional Nov. 2 where they placed second overall and secured a spot on the national stage. They will travel to Florida to compete Jan. 30 through Feb. 2.
The accomplishment is the result of relentless dedication, perseverance, and passion, according to Cheer Coach Kasey Hoyer. The athletes balance a demanding schedule of advanced academics and involvement in multiple extracurriculars, the coach said.
Many members are also standout competitors on the Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball teams and dedicated participants in FFA, demonstrating the well-rounded excellence that defines Yorktown students, Hoyer added.
Beyond competition, the Yorktown Varsity Cheerleaders serve as spirited ambassadors for the entire school. They cheer at games yearround, energize crowds at events, and support students across all sports and activities, helping to build unity and pride on campus.
Coach Hoyer shared that the team’s goal in Orlando is to “Make Your Mark”— a message that reflects both their competitive ambition and their desire to leave a legacy for future generations of Yorktown Cheer. By reaching this elite level, the 2024–2025 squad is setting a new standard and inspiring younger athletes to dream even bigger, the coach said.
As the countdown to Nationals begins, the Yorktown community will likely celebrate their achievements and rally behind them. No matter the outcome in Orlando, the team has already made history — and made their mark.
