GOD first...Heavenly Father, “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound.” “Jesus loves me, this I know” are songs that were inspired by men who had their faith brought back into their lives after having strayed into sin. Lord, strengthen us, with Your mercy, help us in our journey through this life to help others who are in need or reaffirmation of Thy Most Holy Presence. We pray in the name of our Dear Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Pray for those who are ill, suffering, or are in harms’ way.
A woman didn’t come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she stayed overnight at a friend’s home. The husband called her ten best friends, and they knew nothing about it. So the next night, her husband didn’t come home either, and he told his wife that he stayed at a friend’s house all night. She called ten of his best friends. Eight confirmed that he slept over and two said he was still there.
Christmas in Nordheim was on Dec. 7 this year and was attended by locals and visitors from near townships. It was a little cold, but many enjoyed roaming around the vendors’ stations inside the fire station and buying all sorts of things for Christmas. During the noon hour, several people toured the inside of the Museum and found some really interesting displays that have been very carefully made up representing past Nordheimers and their relatives. The Nordheim Museum sold their brown bag lunches at noon while Vicky Cross provided musical renditions of various songs. Dancers from Christa Leigh’s School of Dance performed at 4:30 p.m. and at 5 to 7 p.m. the Nordheim High School Senior Class was having a Chili Dinner with cornbread with hot coffee or tea. While all of this was taking place, several of the Friends of Nordheim were busy decorating the new Christmas Tree in the middle of Broadway Street. At 6 p.m. the tree was lighted as Santa arrived by fire truck and parents and children followed him into the Rec Center to have their picture taken with Santa.
St. Paul Lutheran Church has been collecting canned goods and food to be handed out to needy families around town as they have done yearly for many years.
Kafee Klatch was very interesting as well as entertaining. One couple came in and announced that she was 18 to which those that wanted to know, asked, “Are you pregnant?” “No!” she stated and added that she had a birthday and was only reversing her age (81). Her husband said, “Thank you!” for someone asking the question.
The Schmidt family was brought up again as most of the bunch were kin in one way for the other. Those who were related, talked of grandmas and grandpas and remembering their names as far back as they could remember. Most of the kinship was being related for the benefit of our new Pastor who moved into the newly renovated parsonage a couple of days ago. Pastor Cristine Kirchner has already proven to be fitting, delightful, and a shining light for our congregation and community. Her father, Paul has graced our presence many times in the past while our church has been searching for a new one. She will be installed on January 4, 2026.
At one time, the Schmidt families were so populous around Nordheim, it was said that when Santa came at Christmas time that he flew over the Schmidt House.
Our family group and those who have been coming, enjoy the laughter, the many enlightening stories, some details of times past, and people who moved away and still consider Nordheim home. One such person remembered this week was Carol Mueller, daughter of Gus Mueller, who was also related to several members of our beloved Kaffee Klatch who still recieve the Nordheim News.
A big Thank You for those who expressed condolences for my brother, Robert, who passed away last Monday in Georgetown at home. Memorial services will be held sometime in early January next year.
Also, a big Thank You for those who participated in Christmas in Nordheim this past week sponsored by The Friends of Nordheim. See you next week.
