Quick action saves home from fire

An early morning house fire in the 2900 block of South River Road apparently caused by a short in an electrical outlet was extinguished by the residents Saturday, Nov. 29, according to the fire report.

The Cuero Fire Department, a volunteer firefighter in a tanker and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the alarm about 6:30 a.m., but the residents contained the fire shortly after discovering it and calling 911.

CFD performed mop-up procedures to remove smoldering materials and ensure the fire did not reignite. The house received heavy smoke damage and firefighters used a fan to help remove it.

A resident told firefighters that the fire apparently started in an electrical outlet that had an extension cord attached to a pellet grill smoker plugged into it.
