Parents of elementary school children have a little more breathing room at afternoon pickup now that an extra five minutes is added before the secondary release time, Superintendent Gerald Nixon said.
“It should reduce the backflow to help the parents out,” he said.
The Yorktown ISD school board was advised of the time change at their regular meeting on August 12. Along with its Lone Star Governance (LSG) discussion with Debbie Sexton, the board scheduled a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate for August 26.
Other business items included approving the employee compensation plan as well as the Student Code of Conduct.
Nixon also reported that the new grass on the football field was ready for the first scrimmage against Woodsboro. Back in June, new rolls of Bermuda grass had been planted on the football field after an irrigation system had been installed. With two months to take root, the new field was ready for the gridiron play.
Nixon said the concern nowadays with the playing surface is having some cushioning against concussions.
“The thinness of ‘the carpet’ matters,” he said, indicating that the new field has sufficient thickness for player safety.
